Management Recruiters of Berkeley has been retained by a prominent hospital in the San Francisco Bay Area to conduct a search for a Manager of Clinical Documentation. Our client is a two-campus facility with over 400 beds. The hospital is a national leader in the use of health information technology and wireless communication. They have also been awarded the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center and consecutive ANCC Magnet Recognitions for Nursing Care. Position Profile

This role will be accountable for facilitating long-term success of the clinical documentation improvement program by providing day-to-day oversight of the CDI program.  This will include facilitating modifications to clinical documentation through concurrent interaction with physicians and other members of the health care team to support that appropriate clinical severity is captured for the level of service rendered to all inpatients. The role will also support ongoing communication and education on documentation opportunities, coding and reimbursement issues, as well as performance improvement methodologies to physicians and hospital staff.  Reporting to the Chief Quality Officer, they will work in collaboration with clinicians, coding professionals, physicians, physician’s assistants’ and certified registered nurse practitioners to ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation in the medical record. This supports the coding process in attaining appropriate DRGs based on sound clinical entries in the medical record. The goal of the CDI program is to ensure that physician and allied health documentation accurately represents the condition and co-morbidities for patients.

Position Requirements

  • BSN required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ patient care experience in an acute care hospital or similar setting
  • Minimum of 5-years’ experience in CDI Programs
  • Minimum 3 years management or supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of Medicare Part A and Part B, APR – DRGS, and ICD-10 coding guidelines and coding clinics, PEPPER reports, Value Based Purchasing, and various publicly reported quality indicators.
  • Knowledge of regulatory environment
  • Strong interpersonal, organization skills and effective verbal and written communication
  • Proficiency with Word/Excel/Power Point
  • Current California RN license preferred
  • CCDS Certification preferred
  • Coding experience or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) preferred
