Position Profile

Management Recruiters of Berkeley has been retained to conduct a search for a Hospital Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position based in San Francisco, California. The Hospital CFO, in collaboration with the health system level CFO, provides leadership and oversight in the planning and integration of financial services including financial management, budget, accounting and revenue cycle.  Direct and indirect reports are more than 300 FTE.  This position directly involved at the executive level in strategic, operational and business decisions for the 3,000 plus FTE hospital entity.  The Hospital CFO participates in the development and implementation of the hospitals fiscal and accounting systems, policies and procedures and management reporting.  They will work closely with others throughout the hospital to address revenue cycle and containment/reduction issues, work redesign using Lean Principles and overall performance improvement efforts.

Our client is a 598 bed hospital, offering a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services.  Founded in 1857, the hospital has been providing medical care to the people of San Francisco and northern San Mateo County for over 150 years. Having recently received a major infusion of capital to fund equipment and technology for its new hospital, our client is poised to enter its next exciting chapter.

Our client is an essential part of San Francisco’s health care system, serving some 100,000 patients each year and providing 20% of the city’s inpatient care.  Recognized as one the nation’s top hospitals, they provide compassionate and culturally competent care to a diverse community of patients in more than 20 languages.  It is the city’s busiest emergency room and the only Level 1 Trauma Center providing life-saving care to the 1.5 million adults and children of San Francisco and northern San Mateo County.  In 2011, they became the first hospital in the country to be certified for a Traumatic Brain Injury program.

Other services within the health network include rehabilitation, skilled nursing for HIV/AIDS patients, therapeutic services for traumatic brain injury and a nationally-recognized program for people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

The network also operates 10 community based and 4 hospital based primary care clinics.  Through its clinics, it provides primary care that is patient and family-centered, comprehensive, team-based and focused on quality and safety.  Care includes primary care for all ages, dentistry, diagnostic testing and behavioral health.
