Position Profile

Management Recruiters of Berkeley has been retained to conduct a search for a Director of Health Information Services based in San Francisco, California. The Director of Health Information Services plans, supervises, coordinates and manages the operations and activities required to ensure uninterrupted day-to-day operations of the our client’s Health Information Services (HIS) Department; manages approximately 90 employees providing technical and clerical health record services for approximately 17,000 inpatient admissions and more than 539,000 outpatient visits annually; manages a technical component that aggregates and transmits diagnosis and procedure information for the hospital’s inpatient, Emergency Department, and ambulatory surgery billing functions, in excess of $18 million/week; works in coordination with the Information Systems Department and other institutional managers from nursing and ancillary services units; and to varying degrees, designs, develops, maintains, and/or controls paper-based and computer-based Information Systems which is necessary/important to the provision and documentation of patient care delivery at the hospital.

Having recently received a major infusion of capital to fund equipment and technology for its new hospital, our client is poised to enter its next exciting chapter.

Our client is an essential part of San Francisco’s health care system, serving some 100,000 patients each year and providing 20% of the city’s inpatient care.  Recognized as one the nation’s top hospitals, they provide compassionate and culturally competent care to a diverse community of patients in more than 20 languages.  It is the city’s busiest emergency room and the only Level 1 Trauma Center providing life-saving care to the 1.5 million adults and children of San Francisco and northern San Mateo County.  In 2011, they became the first hospital in the country to be certified for a Traumatic Brain Injury program.

Other services within the health network include rehabilitation, skilled nursing for HIV/AIDS patients, therapeutic services for traumatic brain injury and a nationally-recognized program for people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

The network also operates 10 community based and 4 hospital based primary care clinics.  Through its clinics, it provides primary care that is patient and family-centered, comprehensive, team-based and focused on quality and safety.  Care includes primary care for all ages, dentistry, diagnostic testing and behavioral health.
